October

Holy shit, it’s been way too long since I’ve sat down to write. Now I understand why everyone has been telling me how much they’ve missed my blog. The only way to explain my absence is the fact that October happened. October consisted of two weddings, an Engagement/House Warming/Halloween Party, the release of Fable 3, Erin McKeown concert, Rachel’s credit card number was stolen, pumpkin carvings, and the Wheaton Craft Fair. I’m going to try to digest an entire month into one blog entry…so bare with me.

Credit Card Thief
Prior to leaving for Alexandria, Virginia for Jackie and Marty’s wedding, Rachel purchased a wedding gift online for them and used her credit card. After making her purchase, she checked her account and noticed that someone used her credit card to purchase expensive flowers and hotel room in Florida. I know October was crazy, but I definitely don’t recall going to Florida for an expensive vacation. Which made me realize one of two things: either Rachel’s card was stolen or she was cheating on me with an elderly person who had recently retired to Florida and had very expensive tastes in flowers.

After grilling Rachel for a few hours tickling her and threatening her with rearranging her Cds in non alphabetical order, I finally came to the conclusion that Rachel is a bad liar. She tried to convince me that she had been seeing an elderly woman named Ethel, who she had met while handling her alarm but I saw through her lies. In reality, some creep named Bert or Ernie or Mark or Hamburger Steve stole her credit card number and treated his elderly girlfriend to date night.

After talking to Wallace Wachovia, she was issued a new credit card with a brand new credit card number.

Jackie and Marty’s Wedding
In early October, Jackie and Marty got married (yay). It was a long ass trip, since we had to drive from Mullica Hill to Cape May to pick up Vicky then had to head north towards Mullica Hill, and finally south again towards Virginia. The trip to the wedding was a total of six hours of driving and Rachel was determined to drive the entire thing. We even took my car so that we could evenly divide the driving time and had an original game plan of stopping at the Maryland House for food and to swap seats. We stopped at the Maryland House for food, but she wouldn’t let me take the wheel for the second part of the trip. Of course, by the time we got to our destination, she was complaining about how much her shoulder hurt.

Silly girl.

The wedding weekend was amazing, and I was even able to find Djarum clove cigarettes in a tobacco shop near the bar we were at. Of course we had to make an adventure to find the amazing cloves and buy a pack. It was like heaven in a box.

I also spent some time with Andrew, Meg’s husband. We bonded over Italian foods while all of the ladies (Rachel, Vicky, and Meg) prepared for the wedding, since they were bridesmaids. Andrew and I have made an agreement to name our first born children Snookie and The Situation. I have dibs on Snookie. I also made the decision that their second born child was going to be named Mandrew (a strange combination of their names).

The reception was at Murphy’s Bar, which is an Irish Pub. Of course, all the bridesmaids were wearing very uncomfortable shoes and had to walk a lot in their extra special uncomfortable shoes. When it came time to dancing, Rachel left her shoes at the table and danced in her bare feet. When we arrived at the hotel that night, her feet were black and gross. Actually, gross is an understatement. Vicky’s feet were equally as gross but she was already passed out in the room by the time we got back to the hotel. I soaked Rachel’s tiny little feet in the tub and helped here wash them, since they were extra sore.

Rob and Annie’s Wedding
Wedding number two was a little more awkward, seeing that Rob is Rachel’s ex-boyfriend. The wedding was in Baltimore, in a section of town called “Something-Something Point.” It’s an older section of the city, with cobblestone sidewalks and lots of bricks. Apparently, that’s also where Homicide Life on the Streets was taped.

The food was yummy, except I made the mistake of ordering the crab bisque soup. The base was made with lobsters, which I’m unfortunately allergic too. I lost feeling in my lips and cheeks and most of my face felt funny for about an hour or so.

Memo to self - don’t eat the crab bisque at Louisiana.

Erin McKeown Concert
The night after Rob’s wedding, we went to see Erin McKeown with David and Gretchen. The concert was at the Live Music Café or Live Café or Music Live Café or Café Live Music or Café Music Live. I don’t thing the name really matters, the point is it’s a café with live music. Our seats were right up against the stage. I could have reached out and touched Erin McKeown’s legs if I wanted too. I probably would have, however, I realized at the concert she doesn’t shave her legs. It was a little gross. Actually, little was an understatement.

There were two parts of the concert, the first was part was her performance of Distillation and the second part was a random selection of songs that the audience chose. At one point, she was discussing the song set and the woman behind us shouted that she was hot (several times). Erin McKeown told her thank you but she looked taken.

I Order This Albatross to Stare at You Potluck
The last part of the month consisted of our Engagement/House Warming/Halloween Potluck. It definitely makes for an interesting experience when you blend two complete opposite families together. There was lots of delicious fried foods, such as homemade hot wings and egg rolls and delicious kielbasa with egg noodles and butter. I also made my delicious buffalo chicken dip. There were also lots of veggies platters, because you can’t have enough veggies at a potluck.
